One of the most memorable marriages in the history of The Grand is the wedding ceremony of former Queen of The Netherlands, Princess Beatrix, in the legendary Council Chamber in 1966. Former soccer icons Johan Cruijf, Louis van Gaal, movie director/art painter Jeroen Krabbé and many more celebrities have followed since. The Grand has maintained this tradition in the present and we have welcomed a large number of couples over the last couple of years, each with their own beautiful story.
The Marriage Chamber
The Marriage Chamber offers an intimate setting, ideal for an anniversary celebration, or a romantic proposal. The refined mural drawings and wall frescos, created in 1926 by Chris Lebeau, symbolize the ‘circle of life’, making this space a truly unique backdrop for couples. With its characteristic blue-green light, the chamber creates an ambiance that is both elegant and atmospheric. Every detail in the artwork carries symbolic meaning: a young woman holding a lily, untouched by material temptations, and a young man with an owl, representing wisdom and purity. The stained-glass window depicts a wedding, reinforcing the theme of love. Today, the Marriage Chamber remains a place where tradition and artistry come together, offering a special and memorable setting for life’s most meaningful moments.
