North Malé Atoll is alive with possibilities for those who wish to explore a little further afield. Day-trips off the island include traditional handline fishing aboard a Maldivian Dhoni, luxury cruising in a Catamaran (with snorkelling stops and some unique surprise refreshment breaks), private island picnics on the perfectly secluded ‘Robinson Crusoe’ sandbank, epicurean cruising with champagne and caviar, seaplane flights or big game fishing - to catch yellow fin tuna, wahoo, and marlin. From fishing charters to luxury yacht cruises, the Maldives is a water lover’s paradise. The dhoni is the traditional sailing vessel of the Maldives, and the resort offers a variety of authentic excursions ideal for couples, groups of friends, and families.
The Maldives is one of the world’s top scuba destinations and the area around One&Only Reethi Rah is blessed with dozens of excellent dive sites, all within easy reach of the resort. Thilas, reefs, gentle drop-offs, e wrecks and a visibility of up to 40 metres make this an excellent place to learn and equally rewarding for experienced divers. The Gold Palm and only National Geographic PADI-certified Dive Centre, conveniently situated near the lobby, is run by qualified instructors, who conduct classes and organise regular diving and snorkelling excursions for all levels. A full PADI education programme is offered by a multi-lingual team, including regular Discover Scuba Diving sessions and a PADI programme for children. Certified divers have a range of options: morning or afternoon dives, night dives, nitrox and r rebreather dives. Underwater scooters, digital cameras and camcordersare also available.
Back on dry land, guests can play beach volleyball, football, and pétanque. Bicycles are given to each guest to explore the island’s 44 hectares. One&Only Reethi Rah offers two floodlit synthetic hard courts, where a professional coach offers expert tuition and will also play with any guests in need of a partner. Younger guests, aged four to eleven, can play a variety of sports at KidsOnly, which has a clubhouse, swimming pool, dining area and supervised fun activities. Teenagers can choose a tailor-made programme of sports and excursions at the recreation area, ClubOne.
The combination of a dedicated fitness team and exquisite training environment makes the fitness and well- being experience truly special. The Fitness Centre is fully eq ped with featuring state-of-the-art fitness quip equipment from Technogym®. Offering personalised workout programmes developed for the individual needs of guests and residents and linked with the five other One&Only resorts and gyms using Technogym® equipment, guests can follow the same programme wherever they are. The programme is also fully integrated with specific spa treatments and nutritional advice. A dedicated Kinesis training room offers tri-dimensional pulley system training and Yoga, Tai Chi and meditation are practised in the tranquillity of the Chi Pavilion set above the gentle waters of the lagoon.
